The holidays are behind us and we are now stepping forward into 2019! If you're like most people, you want to improve your current state of health, or at least enhance what is already working well. There are many ways to improve health, but let's go back to basics for a minute and look at hydration. We live in a very dry environment. Even in the cooler winter months Tucson's average relative humidity is about 25%. Compare that to Chicago, Los Angeles or New York, which average 50 - 60% humidity. The dry, desert environment causes us to dehydrate more quickly, which in turn causes us to need more water to stay hydrated. Of course we've heard it is healthier to be well hydrated, but why?

When we are dehydrated all of our cellular functions slow down. The beneficial nutrients from our food and supplements aren't able to get into our cells, and the waste products can't get out of our cells to be eliminated from our bodies. As a result, our metabolism slows down, our energy level decreases, and even our prescribed medications may not work as effectively. Clearly, proper hydration is important to our health.

The best way to stay hydrated is to drink plenty of water. But did you know that high quality ionized water may be better at hydrating your body than plain tap or bottled water? Basically, ionized water molecules are smaller than "regular" water molecules, which makes them easier to absorb into your cells. When water is more easily absorbed, your body doesn't have to work as hard to stay hydrated.
