Healing Touch:
Only blind or visually impaired persons are allowed practice massage in Korea.
Patently Amazing: The European Patent Office lists over 45,000 patents just for massage!
Roman Massage: Julius Cesar suffered from epilepsy and used massage to help with symptoms.
Linguistics Time: The word “Massage” was first used during the 15th century in England.
Old Time Massage: There are Egyptian tomb paintings from 2,500 BCE that depict massage.
Massage Fanatic: Bob Hope, a popular comedian from the 1930s to 1990s, received a 3-4 hour massage every day!
Multiple Modalities: Although Swedish massage is the most well-known and popular type of massage in the U.S., the Associated Bodywork and Massage Professionals (ABMP) estimates that there are more than 350 different massage modalities in use by its members.
Mainstream Massage: About 43 million people in the U.S. had a massage between 2015 and 2016.
That’s a Long Line: The world record for the longest massage chain was made up of 1,600 participants along a beach in the Philippines on May 16, 2014.
Colonial Massage: In colonial America, massage therapists were called medical “rubbers” or “manual therapists”. They later became known as “medical gymnasts” and “masseuses”.
